Footwear & Spikes

 

The 2002 QLAA Conference decided that footwear "Must be worn by all athletes while competiting in any QLAA sanctioned track & field competition.

This also applies to Zone Relay Day, State Relay Day, Zone Intercentre Games, State Championships, Senior Carnival/Pentathlon, Junior Carnival/Pentathlon and Multi Event Championships.

Specific Age Groups

U6 to U10 Are not allowed to wear spikes. Spike shoes with or without spikes, blunts or blanks are NOT allowed in any event, up to and including the Under 10 age group. (2000 QLAA Annual Conference).
U11 to U12 May wear Spikes in all laned events, all Jumping events and Javelin.
Any spike shoe without spikes can be worn in unlaned events. (motion CF15 State Conference 2004)
U13 to U15 May wear spikes in all laned and unlaned track events (excluding walks), jumping events and Javelin. (motion CF14 State Conference 2004)

Little Athletics Relays

U11 to U12 May wear Spikes for Long Jump and High Jump Only.
May wear Spike shows without spikes in All track relay events
U13 to U15 May wear Spikes in all Relay Events.
Any child competiting as an under 13,14 or 15 may also wear spikes (motion CF16 State Conference 2004)

QA Events

When a competition is conducted on a synthetic surface, that part of each spike which projects from the sole or the heel shall not exceed 9mm except in the high jump and javelin throw events where it shall not exceed 12mm. These spikes shall have a maximum diameter of 4mm. For the non-synthetic surfaces the maximum length of spike shall be 25mm and the maximum diameter 4mm.
