The Little Athletic movement began 42 years ago in Geelong, Victoria. Since then, it has spread to all parts of Australia and has about 80,000 children registered at the many centres.
Little Athletics is based on the philosophy of Family Fun and Fitness. It cannot prosper without family involvement. The children are the performers, the adults are the organisers; everyone is a participant. Everyone, from the youngest registered member to the most senior person has a valued place in the movement.
Family
Little Athletics cannot succeed merely as a child-minding centre. The children are given a greater sense of pride when they see their parents assisting with the programme. For the adults, there is the feeling that they are helping children to meet one another in healthy competition. Together, children and adults share a common interest.
Fun
The level of competition depends on what you, as a family, want to make. Some children compete only at their own centre, while others aspire to State and even National Level. Each child should be encouraged to consider self-improvement as his or her personal aim.

Aspley Centre encourages all our eligible children to take part in Aspley Pentathlon Day, Zone Relay Day and Zone Intercentre Games no matter what their standard of performance. The children can have a lot of fun and these competitions help to build a very strong centre team spirit. |
Fitness
An old saying refers to "a sound mind in a sound body". Little Athletics encourages physical fitness through weekly competition and training sessions. It also encourages a healthy attitude towards winning and losing and the responsibility of the members |
